Abstract
Diphenhydramine·HCl (Benadryl) has been found to have an antiemetic effect against apomorphine-induced vomiting in dogs. Diphenhydramine-8-chlorotheophylline in equivalent doses of diphenhydramine is equally effective while 8-chlorotheophylline is ineffective in suppressing emesis. Phenobarbital and atropine are effective only in hypnotic doses.
The mode of action of diphenhydramine·HCl in anti-emesis and its indication in pernicious vomiting of pregnancy, and in sea and air sickness are suggested.
