Abstract
Fifteen minutes after s.c. injection, the narcotics (morphine and phenazocine) and the narcotic antagonists (nalorphine, levallorphan, l-cyclazocine and its cyclobutylmethyl homolog and l-pentazocine and its C-5 ethyl homolog) prevented phenylquinone-induced reactions at doses lower than those that affected rotarod performance. Pilocarpine also did so but produced salivation at about the same doses that prevented phenylquinone-induced reactions. d-Pentazocine, chlorpromazine and d-amphetamine did not prevent phenylquinone-induced reactions at doses lower than those that affected rotarod performance. Although the narcotic antagonists reached their peak activity in preventing phenylquinone-induced reactions within 15 min after injecton, the other drugs did not do so.
