Abstract
1. The effect of 0.035, 0.07, and 0.14 M Tridione on the inhibition of oxygen uptake of mouse brain slices with glucose, lactate, pyruvate, succinate, glutamate, citrate and acetate was studied.
2. At the lowest concentration, inhibition was present only with glucose. At the higher concentrations, inhibition was present with all substrates, although succinate was the least inhibited.
3. The inhibition with glucose could be overcome by washing, p-phenylenediamine, and methylene blue but not by ascorbic acid, glutathione, cysteine, adenosinetriphosphate or cytochrome c.
4. Brain slices from mice injected with large doses of Tridione showed inhibition of oxygen uptake in glucose.
5. Tridione acted like other central nervous system depressants in inhibiting the oxygen uptake when glucose, lactate, and pyruvate were substrates. With p-phenylenediamine and succinate the inhibition was considerably less.
