Abstract
Imidazoleacetylcholine (ImACh) has been compared with imidazoleacrylcholine (ImAcrCh) and imidazolepropionylcholine (ImPrCh) in some enzymic and pharmacologic studies. As with ImAerCh and ImPrCh, ImACh causes neuromuscular blockade, stimulates ganglia, weakly stimulates the peripheral cholinergic effector sites, potentiates histamine, causes contracture of the frog rectus abdominis muscle, inhibits cholinesterases and diamine oxidase and is hydrolyzed by some nonspecific cholinesterases. In general, the order of activity is ImPrCh 〉 ImAerCh 〉 ImACh.
The ganglionic stimulation, peripheral cholinergic stimulation and frog rectus actions are blocked by hexamethonium, atropine and d-tubocurarine, respectively.
