Abstract
The ability of various areas of the brain to synthesize catecholamines from C14-tyrosine has been investigated in cat brain slices. After 3 hours incubation, the caudate nucleus contained labeled dopamine but no other catecholamine. The hypothalamus, visual cortex, and reticular area formed small quantities of both dopamine and norepinephrine. Based upon enzyme activities and endogenous values reported by others, the relatively low radioactivity found in the norepinephrine fraction of the hypothalamus was quite unexpected.
