Abstract
Fifty µg of dihydro-ouabain per heart-lung preparation (2 to 3 times the minimal positive inotropic dose) cause the heart to gain more potassium. Medium doses (below the irregularity or toxic dose) produce loss of potassium from the heart with subsequent gain; the duration and extent of potassium loss is dose-dependent.
Increase of heart rate in the dihydro-ouabain treated heart for 1 minute causes the heart to lose potassium ; the magnitude of this loss is inversely proportional to the time interval between heart beats.
