Abstract
Further studies on the pharmacologic action of HFE have revealed the following cogent information.
1. The HFE-induced seizure is compatible with atropine, thiopental sodium and succinylcholine chloride premedication.
2. The HFE threshold seizure time and/or volume of 10% HFE in the rat are not significantly affected by premedication with iproniazid or proclorperazine. It is, however, reduced by reserpine and high dosage levels of chlorpromazine.
3. The HFE seizure evokes a central stimulation of the respiratory rate and tidal volume in the dog and monkey under pentobarbital anesthesia.
4. HFE-induced convulsions did not produce cardiac irregularities in the dog or monkey. The inversion or depression of T11-wave, when observed in the dogs, was not considered to be pathological, that is, was not due to a cardiotoxic effect of HFE, but rather to normal physiological variations.
