Abstract
1. The ATPase activity of the aorta of the rabbit is inhibited by the rapidly-acting vasodilators such as amyl nitrite, glyceryl trinitrate and isobutylglycollate nitrate.
2. The ATPase activity of the aorta of the rabbit is not inhibited by sodium nitrite.
3. The ATPase activity of the smooth muscle from the uterus or from skeletal muscle is not inhibited by these vasodilators.
4. The relationship of the ATPase action and vasodilation is discussed.
