Abstract

Three weeks after duct ligation of the rat submaxillary gland, atrophy of the gland was observed with a resulting pronounced decrease in wet weight. The number of α2-adrenoceptors labelled with [3H]clonidine was considerably reduced after three weeks of duct ligation. The results of this study indicate that in the rat submaxillary gland, the majority of the α2-adrenoceptors are located postsynaptically.
