These results do not support previous proposals that ethanol should inhibit (Lin and Chai, 1955) or facilitate (Wang et al., 1997) dopamine re-uptake. In the first case, a local ethanol infusion (200 mM) prolonged the voltammetric signal of dopamine evoked by locally applied N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) or exogenously applied dopamine.
