Induction of P-glycoprotein expression and activity by prolactin in female rat liver
2021, Life SciencesCitation Excerpt :Litter size was standardized to 8 to 10 pups. Female virgin rats of the same age were used as control group (VC, 230–260 g) and were sacrificed irrespective of the day of estrus [25]. Litters from PP15 group were breast-fed by surrogate mothers until 21–23 days after delivery for ethical reasons.
Tissue-specific, inducible, and hormonal control of the human UDP-glucuronosyltransferase-1 (UGT1) locus
2005, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Glucuronidation plays a critical role in the detoxification and removal of small lipophilic compounds, and the dramatic induction of UGT1A4 and UGT1A6 may represent an example of the natural defense system that is activated during lactation, ensuring that only the most essential nutrients are available to the nursing neonates. There is support for this possibility because it has been demonstrated that lactating rats exhibit enhanced hepatic p-nitrophenol glucuronidation activity (49). We could also speculate that the induction of UGT1A4 and UGT1A6 during lactation is controlled through prolactin production, because it has been indicated that prolactin has been able to increase rat UGT1A6 but not rat UGT1A1 in ovariectomized rats (26).
Effect of spironolactone on the expression of rat hepatic UDP-glucuronosyltransferase
2003, Biochemical PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Microsomal lipids were extracted by the procedure of Folch et al.[41]. Total cholesterol, lipid phosphate content, phospholipid classes, fatty acid composition and steady-state fluorescence anisotropy of DPH (r) were determined as described previously [42]. Data were presented as means±SD except for densitometric analysis of Northern blot studies in which only mean values were calculated.
