Fatty Acids, Eicosanoids, and Hypolipidemic Agents Regulate Gene Expression Through Direct Binding to Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 447))

Abstract

Maintenance of caloric homeostasis is a vital function that depends on a fine-tuned regulation of fuel uptake, storage and utilisation in response to both environmental conditions and internal stimuli. The control machinery includes, among others, factors that transduce metabolic parameters into gene regulatory events. The characterisation of such factors highly contributes to the elucidation of the molecular basis of energy balance and to our understanding of associated disorders.
