Regulation of endogenous cardiomyocyte proliferation: The known unknowns
2023, Journal of Molecular and Cellular CardiologyABRO1 arrests cardiomyocyte proliferation and myocardial repair by suppressing PSPH
2023, Molecular TherapyComparative Gene Expression Analyses Reveal Distinct Molecular Signatures between Differentially Reprogrammed Cardiomyocytes
2017, Cell ReportsCitation Excerpt :In addition, stepwise gene-expression changes of cell-cycle genes were observed along iCM reprogramming (Figure S4A). The cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases are known to be downregulated in developing CMs (Kang and Koh, 1997). Thus, we compared the expression of representative cyclin and Cdk genes between iCMs and iPSC-CMs (Figure 4E).
Knockdown of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors induces cardiomyocyte re-entry in the cell cycle
2011, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Cardiomyocytes are polyploid and polynucleated cells. Although ploidy was not measured, we found that most neonatal cardiomyocytes were mononucleated, and the majority of the adult cardiomyocytes were bi-nucleated, as observed previously in rodents (74). As expected for a proliferation promoting intervention, CKI knockdown increased the nuclei/cardiomyocyte ratio in both neonatal and adult cells.
The GSK-3 Inhibitor BIO Promotes Proliferation in Mammalian Cardiomyocytes
2006, Chemistry and BiologyCitation Excerpt :Moreover, the increase in Cyclin D1 level was detected in the nucleus (Figure 2B). Similarly, Cyclin A mRNA and protein levels have been shown to rapidly decrease in rat hearts postbirth such that it is undetectable in adults [2, 13]. Treatment with BIO also increased the percentage of cells that show strong Cyclin A expression in cardiomyocytes by 13-fold (13.9% ± 1.6%) compared to control (1.1% ± 0.7%, p = 0.0002).
