Table 7

The effect of the repeated p.o. administration of 0.1 and 0.3 mg/kg of SB-277011-A and haloperidol on the number of spontaneously active A9 and A10 DA neurons in anesthetized male Sprague-Dawley rats

TreatmentDose (p.o.)DA Cells/Track
A9A10
mg/kg
Vehicle0.82  ± 0.077-a 1.20  ± 0.10
SB-277011-A0.10.91  ± 0.091.10  ± 0.10
SB-277011-A0.30.80  ± 0.061.30  ± 0.17
Haloperidol0.50.40  ± 0.077-b 0.48  ± 0.077-b

A total of 10 rats were examined for each treatment. Animals were given either vehicle (2% methylcellulose, 1 ml/kg), haloperidol, or SB-277011-A once a day for 21 consecutive days, and the experiments were conducted 2 h later.

  • 7-a  Each value represents the mean number of spontaneously active DA neurons detected per stereotaxic descent ± S.E.

  • 7-b  Significantly less than vehicle and all doses of SB-277011-A, P < .01, ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keul's test.
