Methods are described for the estimation of procaine and its transformation products in biological fluids and tissues in vivo. 2. The first step in the metabolism of procaine after its intravenous administration to man was shown to be hydrolysis to diethylaminoethanol and p-aminobenzoic acid. The hydrolysis takes place with unusual rapidity. Diethylaminoethanol is further metabolized in large part, but the nature of its transformation is not known. 3. The hydrolysis of procaine occurs mainly in the plasma. 1948 by The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics %U https://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/jpet/94/4/359.full.pdf
