AB  - 1. Morphine added to rat liver slices is oxidized apparently at the hydroxy groups. Kidney and brain are inactive. 2. The reaction does not occur under anaerobic conditions or after boiling the slices. Liver cell suspensions oxidize morphine much more slowly than slices. 3. No evidence of conjugation was found. 4. Dilaudid is also oxidized under the same conditions. 5. Codeine and dionine apparently inhibit the oxidation of morphine.
