Fresh sections of excised lung may be used for the microscopic study of rabbit pulmonary artery (but not arteriolar) reactions to drugs and anaphylaxis. 2. Constriction is produced by histamine, mecholyl, barium chloride, and Janus green. 3. Atropine antagonizes histamine and mecholyl constriction. Magnesium chloride antagonizes histamine and barium chloride constriction. 4. Epinephrine and benzedrine have little or no effect on the normal rabbit pulmonary artery (intrapulmonary portion). 5. Pilocarpine dilates the normal artery and seems to paralyze the parasympathetic endings. 6. Atropine prevented anaphylactic contraction, while epinephrine was ineffective. 7. A few preparations exhibited rhythmic pendular contractions. ER -
