Only cincophen and neocincophen show a marked influence in preventing uric acid deposition. 2. The action of sodium salicylate is very slight. The increase in uric acid excretion produced by this substance in man is probably partially due to an effect upon nuclein metabolism rather than to a renal action. 3. An explanation for the dissimilar effects of cincophen and sodium salicylate in acute gout is suggested. 4. The method used in the experiments described seems suitable for testing drugs with regard to their therapeutic value in gout and related metabolic disturbances.
