PAUMGARTTEN YR 1973 UL http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/186/3/562.abstract AB Procaine (1-4 mM) and tetracaine (1 mM) reversibly blocked contractures and the attendant increase in 45Ca efflux induced by quinine (0.15-20.0 mM) in the sartorius muscle of the frog (Leptodactillus ocellatus). Blockade of the contraetures was observed both in normally polarized and in depolarized muscles, whether the local anestheties were applied prior to or after time elicitation of the contracture. Analysis of the doseresponse curves indicates that procaine and tetracaine act as competitive inihibitors of quinine in frog sartorius muscle. © 1973 by The Williams & Wilkins Co.
