Oral absorption of SK&F 36914 was also indicated by the presence of serum gold levels. In contrast, the clinically used gold salt (gold sodium thiomalate) did not produce a therapeutic effect or significant serum gold levels after oral administration to adjuvant arthritic rats. Oral administration of SK&F 36914 produced lower gold levels in both serum and kidneys than equivalent therapeutic doses of parenteral gold sodium thiomalate. Based on these findings, SK&F 36914 would appear to have potential as an agent for oral chrysotherapy. © 1972 by The Williams & Wilkins Co.
