This effect was more marked after reduction of the blood pressure by various hypotensive agents. The increase caused by tolbutamide was still observed after elevation of a reduced blood pressure by norepinephrine, or angiotensin infusion. The effect was not associated with release of insulin brought about by tolbutamide; it was not mediated by catecholamine release, nor by an action of tolbutamide on the kidney. Possible mechanisms are discussed. © 1971, by The Williams & Wilkins Company
