It. had no effect on isolated ileum of 11-day-old rats. At 6 to 50 µg/ml, GMA potentiated the contractile response of guinea-pig ilcum to coaxial electrical stimulation and antagonized tile depressant effect of morphine. hut not of tetrodotoxin. At 25 or 50 µg/ml, GMA increased the release of acetylcholine from isolated guine-pig ileum. The results suggest that some effects of GMA on the smooth muscle may be mediated by release of acetylcholine. © 1971, by The Williams & Wilkins Company
