It is a simple and accurate means for measuring the paw temperature changes during experimental pedal inflammation induced by the subplantar injection of phlogistic agents. The method may be used as a supplement to other methods for the evaluation of the antiinflammatory activity of drugs. The paw temperature profile resulting from the subplantar injection of yeast shows two peaks, an initial rise followed by a more pronounced rise. Aspirin partially inhibits the initial temperature rise, and greatly suppresses the second.
