The rate of metabolism of these substrates by hepatic enzymes was compared in man and rat. The enzyme system which hydroxylates 3,4-benzpyrene was studied in detail. This enzyme system in man is similar to that found in the rat; both are localized in the microsomal fraction and require reduced triphosphopyridine nucleotide (NADPH) for activity. Methods are described for measuring oxidative microsomal enzyme activity in small samples of human liver. The Williams & Wilkins Comapny ER -
