Levy A1 Victor Richards YR 1964 UL http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/144/1/104.abstract AB Aldosterone, ouabain and deoxycorticosterone have been studied for their effects on the O2 uptake of a variety of myocardial preparations. Aldostenone was found to have no influence on the O2 uptake of all tissues studied regardless of whether low (10-9 to 10-11 M) or high (10-4 to 10-6 M) concentrations were tested. The O2 uptake of atnia from adrenalectomized rats, even though 8.5% higher than that seen in normal atnia, was also unaffected by these concentrations of aldosterone. Ouabain (10-6 M) was found to produce a marked and sustained increase in the O2 uptake of rabbit and human atnial myocardium, although atria from normal rats were resistant to the action of the glycoside in this concentration. Deoxycorticosterone (glucoside) also had no effect on the O2 uptake of rat atnia, even in a concentration of 10-4 M. The Williams & Wilkins Company
