This phenomenon was independent of glucose and apparently involved inhibition of the activation of lipolysis rather than an increase in re-esterification of free fatty acid. Free fatty acid release by adipose tissue in vitro was increased by the lower concentrations of dl-3,4-dichloroisoproterenol and maximum free fatty acid production was achieved at 10-5 molar. dl - 1 - (2,4 - Dichlorophenyl) - 2 - t -butyl-aminoethanol was similar in action to dl-3,4-dichloroisoproterenol in that at concentrations above 10-4 molar it effectively inhibited free fatty acid release due to catecholamines; however, unlike dl-3,4-dichloroisoproterenol and several other compounds it did not stimulate free fatty acid production in vitro at any concentration studied.
