AB  - A number of compounds inhibit monoamine oxidase and prolong the duration of hexobarbital hypnosis. The two effects are due to different mechanisms. The effect on hexobarbital hypnosis is relatively short-lasting and results from inhibition of the metabolizing enzyme in liver microsomes; the effect on MAO is long-lasting.
