In male rats treated chronically with estradiol, the glucuronyl transferase activity in liver microsomes was reduced, while administration of testosterone to female rats increased this enzyme activity. The administration of a single dose of benzpyrene produced an increase in adult male and female glucuronyl transferase activity within 48 hours, the effect on males being moderate, while a marked increase was noted in females. A single dose of 3-methylcholanthrene produced a marked increase in glucuronyl transferase activity in male weanling rats. Treatment of female rats with testosterone and benzpyrene gave a greater than additive effect. In addition, a stimulation of glucuronyl transferase activity in neonatal rats and guinea pigs following benzpyrene treatment was noted.
