The peak activity in all four areas occurred within 1 hour after drug administration. The distribution in the brain was found to be very uniform; the slight differences observed among the four areas were not significant. The metabolism of meprobamate was studied following the administration of 250 mg/kg of labeled meprobamate to nephrectomized rats; each animal received about 30 µc of activity. Three compounds, a glucuronide, hydroxymeprobamate and meprobamate, were found in the blood while the equivalent analysis of the brain revealed only meprobamate. The present results and other confirmatory tests indicate that the metabolites of meprobamate are not present in the central nervous system of the rat.
