Following an intravenous infusion of dl-epinephrine-2-C14, 73 ± 5% of the infused radioactivity was recovered in the urine of six control subjects; in six subjects treated with iproniazid 80 ± 5% was recovered. Iproniazid treatment greatly reduced the amounts of MOMA and increased the amount of conjugated metanephrine excreted in the 24-hour urine; in the urine collected immediately after the infusion of dl-epinephrine-2-C14 the amounts of free epinephrine and free and conjugated metanephrine were increased and the amount of MOMA was decreased. The roles of oxidative deamination and o-methylation in the metabolism of epinephrine are discussed. ER -
