The concentration of procaine in the spinal fluid during the anesthesia was about 0.2 mgm. per ml., which is the threshold concentration for spinal block. At least part of the anesthesia during the peridural technique in man is the result of dural penetration of procaine and the subsequent production of spinal anesthesia.
