Evidence by means of specific inhibitors is given that staining in nervous tissue is due mainly to acetylcholinesterase activity. Enzymatic activity was demonstrated in the cytoplasm and cell membranes of neurocytes, in the neuropile and in myoneural junctions. Cell nuclei were free of enzymatic activity. Illustrations are given.
