Abstract
1. The general pharmacological properties of a series of acetamidines and propionamidines have been presented.
2. A small minority of the amidines exhibited marked anticholinergic and somewhat less marked antihistaminic activity. The presumed structural requisites to those actions have been discussed.
3. A minority of the amidines comprised a second group that exhibited marked positive inotropic and chronotropic effects upon the perfused heart and the heartlung preparation. The presumed structural requisites to that action have been discussed in detail.
