Abstract
1. Three new methods have been described for obtaining a soluble preparation of amytal (isoamyl ethyl barbituric acid).
2. Amytal given intravenously has been found useful as an anesthetic for animal experimentation.
3. In dogs a dosage of 45 to 60 mgm. has been found most suitable for ordinary experimental procedures.
4. Small doses over suitable time intervals has been found an effective method of anesthesia.
5. Using the optimum dosage the blood pressure fall is not great and recovery is rapid. As with intraperitoneal injections the circulation and respiration are well maintained.
6. Attention has been called to the use of ethylene glycol as solvent of great usefulness in physiological experimentation.
