Abstract
R-720-11 causes a transient fall in blood pressure due to a peripheral vasodilator action and causes an increase in the heart rate and myocardial force of contractions which is likely due to an indirect sympathomimetic effect mediated by the release of one or more sympathomimetic substances, probably norepinephrine and epinephrine.
R-720-11 causes a marked increase in the blood pressure in a dog pretreated acutely with reserpine and conversely reserpine causes a marked pressor effect in a dog pretreated with R-720-11. It is believed that this occurs because under the combined influence of reserpine and R-720-11, the release of catecholamines from tissue stores is enhanced.
