Abstract
The relative chemotherapeutic effectiveness of 1,1'-trimethylene bis(4-formylpyridinium) dioxime (TMB-4) and 2-pyridinium aldoxime inethiodide (2-PAM) as adjuvants to atropine in the treatment of rats poisoned with anticholinesterases has been studied. TMB-4 was found to be superior to 2-PAM when used prophylactically against sarin and therapeutically against the above agent as well as tabun, DFP and TEPP.
The rapid rate of reactivation of eel cholinesterase (inactivated by the above agents), when incubated with TMB-4, suggests that reactivation of inhibited cholinesterase may be part of the mechanism of chemotherapeutic action of this oxime.
