Abstract
The relative potency of methohexital and thiopental has been determined in man and in dog by servo-controlled cross-over experiments.
In terms of their action in man in producing electroencephalographic changes commonly associated with deepening barbiturate anesthesia, methohexital was found to be 2.78 times as potent as thiopental. The 95% confidence limits are 3.5 and 2.2, respectively. In the cross-over experiment carried out in the four dogs, the potency of methohexital relative to thiopental (φ) was found to be 3.07.
