Abstract
Atropine and scopolamine quaternized by a polymethylene chain at the nitrogen groups are potent curarizing agents.
The curarizing activity of the octamethylene bis-atropinium was greater than that of the hexamethylene analogue.
It is of interest that such twinned compounds also retain much of the activity of the parent compounds with respect to their ability to inhibit blood pressure drop from vagal stimulation or injection of acetylcholine and to produce mydriasis.
