Abstract
FD&C triphenylmethane colors FD&C Blue No. 1, FD&C Green No. 1, FD&C Green No. 3, and FD&C Violet No. 1, administered orally to rats, were found to be almost completely excreted in the feces. FD&C Green No. 2 was not recovered in the same quantitative yields obtained with the others, probably because of its instability in the body. None of the colors was found in the urine.
The loss of the administered color was reduced when the dose was changed from 200 to 20 mgm.
The colors were found in small amounts in the bile of dogs after the administration of moderate doses per os.
The quantity of these colors absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration was calculated to be on the order of 10 mgm. for a 200 mgm. dose.
