Endogenous opioid modulation of food intake and body weight: Implications for opioid influences upon motivation and addiction
2019, PeptidesCitation Excerpt :The use of this knockdown strategy provides further converging evidence for a powerful role of opioid receptors, particularly the mu-opioid subtype in mediating homeostatically-driven feeding behavior, and also supports the contention of “positive addictive “properties of opioids. Opioid receptors mediate their effects through putative activation of G-proteins to which they are coupled and modulate the inhibition of cAMP [see reviews: 351,379,385]. In this series of studies, AS ODNs directed against different G-proteins were administered ventricularly, and their effects upon opioid- and homeostatically-induced feeding assessed.
