Secondary metabolites from the Chinese liverwort Diplophyllum apiculatum
2019, Phytochemistry LettersCitation Excerpt :The following known compounds (Fig. S32.) were also isolated, as determined by comparison of their spectroscopic data to those reported in the literature: drimenol (Brown, 1994) (4), (1R,4aR,8aR)-5,5,8a-Trimethyl-2-methylenedecahydro-naphthalen-1-yl-methanol (Pollini et al., 2004) (5), chiloscyphenols A (Ma et al., 2007) (6), Fusicoauritone (Zapp et al., 1994) (7), 2,6-dihydroxy-3,4-dimethylbenzoic acid methyl ester (Tzong-Huei et al., 2010) (8). Melting points were measured with an X-6 micromelting point apparatus.
Bioherbicidal activity of drimane sesquiterpenes from Drimys brasiliensis Miers roots
2015, Industrial Crops and ProductsCitation Excerpt :Sesquiterpenes comprise a large group and are known to have a wide variety of biological activities and also play an important role in plant defense mechanisms (Fraga, 2002). The main sesquiterpenes already reported in Drimys belong to the drimane group (Brown, 1994; Malheiros et al., 2001; Rodríguez et al., 2005; Mecchi and Lago, 2013). Polygodial is the major chemical constituent and active component present in Drimys species (Cechinel Filho et al., 1998; Mendes et al., 1998; Rodríguez et al., 2005).
Repellency and toxicity of essential oils from the leaves and bark of Laurelia sempervirens and Drimys winteri against Tribolium castaneum
2010, Industrial Crops and ProductsCytotoxic sesquiterpenoids from Winteraceae of Caledonian rainforest
2009, PhytochemistryPresence of polygodial and drimenol in Drimys populations from Chile
2007, Biochemical Systematics and EcologyCitation Excerpt :In the present study, polygodial content in leaves shows similar values as in the bark, while Malheiros (2001) didn't find any polygodial in the leaves of D. angustifolia or Drimys brasiliensis. This compound is produced in the plant by successive oxidations of drimenol (Brown, 1994). The present study shows that trees from Pangal could represent a valuable genetic resource for its high polygodial content, but their existence is in danger due to the expansion of agriculture.
