NLX-101, a cortical 5-HT<inf>1A</inf> receptor biased agonist, reverses scopolamine-induced deficit in the delayed non-matching to position model of cognition
2021, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Thus, 8-OH-DPAT increases extracellular levels of acetylcholine (ACh) in the rat and guinea pig cortex, albeit with less efficacy in the latter species (Bianchi et al., 1990; Siniscalchi et al., 1990). This enhancing effect is shared by other 5-HT1A receptor agonists, MKC-242 or repinotan (a.k.a. BAYx3702) (Koyama et al., 1999; Somboonthum et al., 1997). Of note, the enhanced ACh efflux induced by repinotan was abrogated by WAY-100,635.
Psychopharmacology of combined activation of the serotonin<inf>1A</inf> and σ<inf>1</inf> receptors
2017, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Activation of 5-HT1A receptors affects the release of several neurotransmitters (noradrenaline, dopamine and acetylcholine) beside 5-HT. The regulation of 5-HT (Hjorth and Magnusson, 1988; Sharp et al., 1989) and acetylcholine (Somboonthum et al., 1997) is mainly mediated by presynaptic 5-HT1A receptors and that of noradrenaline (Suzuki et al., 1995; Hajós-Korcsok et al., 1999) or dopamine (Sakaue et al., 2000; Ago et al., 2003) release is mediated by postsynaptic 5-HT1A receptors. Systemic administration of 5-HT1A receptor agonists inhibits anxiety-like and depression-like behaviors, aggressive and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
