Stimulatory effects of dietary chia (Salvia hispanica) seeds on performance, antioxidant-immune indices, histopathological architecture, and disease resistance of Nile tilapia
2023, AquacultureCitation Excerpt :Liver tissues in the current study did not show abnormal architecture, indicating that dietary CSP is not toxic to Nile tilapia fingerlings. Moreover, the cell proliferation estimated by PCNA immunohistochemistry could be used for estimating the antioxidative property of dietary CSP; where regeneration of damaged liver tissue is usually accompanied with high PCNA expression (Assy et al., 1998; Onita et al., 2021). The PCNA immunohistochemistry indicated that feeding fish on a 10.0 g CSP/kg diet showed lowest cell proliferation in liver and intestine tissues.

2011, Experimental ParasitologyCitation Excerpt :Our results showed that there was a significant decrease in the level of expression of Pcna in the liver of T. b. brucei infected mice (Table 1 and Fig. 3E and F). It has been reported that Pcna is a good marker to distinguish proliferating cells (Assy et al., 1998; Xu et al., 2000) hence it is possible that T. b. brucei infection inhibited the proliferation of hepatocytes in the infected mice. Compared with T. b. brucei infection, Pcna was more down-regulated in the liver of mice infected with T. b. evansi (Li et al., 2009), which indicated that the inhibition of proliferation of hepatocytes in mice infected with T. b. evansi was more acute than that in T. b. brucei infection.
