2013, Ocular Surface Disease: Cornea, Conjunctiva and Tear Film Expert Consult - Online and PrintImmunocytochemical evidence that most sensory neurons of the rat molar pulp express receptors for both glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor
2006, Archives of Oral BiologyCitation Excerpt :Considering that the overall proportion of pulpal afferents that expressed CGRP-ir also rose from about 30% under control conditions to about 45% after pulp exposure, it appears that two changes contributed to the net effect of tooth injury, that is, some GFRα-1-ir neurons began to express CGRP and some CGRP-ir neurons began to express the GDNF receptor. Although an NGF role in regulation of CGRP expression by primary nociceptors is well established,56,52 a recent study has demonstrated that infusion of GDNF into the spinal cord results in up-regulation of CGRP expression by DRG neurons.57 Although tooth injury resulted in an increase in GFRα-1-ir and a decrease in TrkA expression, the proportion of pulpal afferents that expressed both receptors (61%) was not significantly changed from control conditions (65%).
