Some reports indicate that DTC compounds can chelate and redistribute Cu (Delmaestro and Trombetta, 1995; Edington and Howell, 1966; Lakomaa et al., 1982; Stephenson and Trombetta, 2020; Tonkin et al., 2004). In our own lab, Cu accumulation was observed in two transformed human colon cell lines (HT-29 and Caco-2) after treatment with EBDC compounds maneb, mancozeb, zineb, and nabam (Hoffman et al., 2016).

(2008) reported that Sprague-Dawley rats exposed to diethyldithiocarbamate had elevated levels of copper in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Additionally, Delmaestro and Trombetta (1995) demonstrated that sodium diethyldithiocarbamate exposure in rats produced an accumulation of copper within the brain. Several in vitro studies have also suggested that marked increases in copper concentrations were the primary mechanism of dithiocarbamate (DTC) induced toxicity (Burkitt et al., 1998; Nobel et al., 1997;).
