Serotonin-1A receptor activation in the median raphe nucleus improves response learning-based strategy in 192IgG saporin-induced cognitive impairments
2022, European Journal of PharmacologyNLX-101, a cortical 5-HT<inf>1A</inf> receptor biased agonist, reverses scopolamine-induced deficit in the delayed non-matching to position model of cognition
2021, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :This latter study points towards a possible beneficial effect of NLX-101 in a cognition model responsive to manipulations of the cholinergic system. There is indeed abundant anatomical, neurochemical, electrophysiological and behavioural experimental evidence suggesting that there is a tight link between the central cholinergic and serotonergic systems (Steckler and Sahgal, 1995), with 5-HT1A receptors playing a central role (Cassel and Jeltsch, 1995). Furthermore, 5-HT1A receptors have been shown to exert neurotrophic effects on cholinergic neurons (Riad et al., 1994), and the decrement of 5-HT1A receptor binding in the rat forebrain seen with increasing age particularly affects the cholinergic cell groups that innervate the cortex and the hippocampus (Nyakas et al., 1997).

2018, Life SciencesCitation Excerpt :Through these mechanisms, serotonin can quickly and effectively suppress neuronal transmission. Heteroreceptors are expressed on non-serotonergic neurons, mainly in the limbic system, such as body and dendrites of glutamatergic neurons [6], axons of GABA neurons [10] or cholinergic neurons [11]. Receptors located in the medial septum regulate the release of acetylcholine [12], in the prefrontal cortex - glutamate [13], and in the midbrain ventral tegmental area - dopamine [14].
