It has been showed that pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α and IL-1β were as potent inducers of sphingomyelinases to hydrolyze SM (Kolesnick and Kolesnick and Golde, 1994). Taking account of the results observed in lipidomics analysis, it can be conjectured that TCS exposure brought about oxidative stress to increase the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines that can enhance SM hydrolysis to produce Cer, finally resulted in apoptosis.
