A previous study reported that toxic mediators released from eosinophils, such as platelet-activating factors, reactive oxygen radicals, and major basic proteins, played an important role in inducing bronchial mucosal injury (Gleich, 1990). Eosinophils are also known to contribute to bronchial smooth muscle cell death in asthma patients (Solarewicz-Madejek et al., 2009).
