Experiments 1 (Fig. 2) and 2 (Fig. 4) add to the various studies showing that a high dose of caffeine can produce robust place (Brockwell et al., 1991; Sturgess et al., 2010) and taste aversion (Myers and Izbicki, 2006; Steigerwald et al., 1988) in rodents. Additionally, Myers and Izbicki (2006) demonstrated caffeine's biphasic effect using a taste conditioning procedure, providing additional evidence for caffeine's appetitive effects at low doses.
