2016, Behavioural Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Taken together, different onset of locomotor sensitization during the MSA period may provide meaningful information on the transition to opiate addiction process. It has been shown that rats with high locomotor responses to novelty (HR), as compared to rats with low locomotor responses to novelty (LR), exhibit vulnerability to drugs including amphetamine [41] and morphine [14,17]. Interestingly, the LR animals did not acquire intravenous amphetamine self-administration unless they were pre-treated with repeated amphetamine injections [41].
